Digital Refereeing is a concept of giving game officials extended ability to analyze a specific incident in greater detail by using video replay technology, such as VantEDGE technology, to give them a more accurate idea of what happened in a given incident.

Video replays are currently used in some sports to help game officials determine the outcome of an incident. However they are limited in angle, and often cannot be relied upon as they typically do not see the entire playing field. VantEDGE technology brings that a step further by keeping an eye on everything in it's viewing path, so it cannot be blocked by a player in the field. By giving a full 360° view, a game official can quickly type in a time to anaylze and look at that particular time from all angles.

With the addition of HD technology later this year, and other tracking technologies currently being researched such as 3D "game object tracking", we feel this system will revolutionize the way game officials use video replays at live events.
